Summer Classic Policies

AGE REQUIREMENT: To participate in the Arizona Summer Classic (July 11-14, 2013), players must be 2013 graduates or not turn 19 prior to May 1, 2013. To participate in the 16U Summer Classic (July 18-21, 2013), players may not turn age 17 before May 1, 2013.

GATE OPENING: Gates open 45 minutes prior to first scheduled game of the day. Gate opening and game times can be delayed due to weather or field conditions at the Tournament Director's discretion.

HITTING TUNNELS: On site, Peoria Sports Complex – first come, first serve. Open during tournament game times only.

TOURNAMENT GAME ADMISSIONS: This venue will feature gate admissions. Admission will be good for all games for that day. All-Tournament passes will  also be available. Be certain to obtain a hand stamp which allows unlimited re-entry for that day. For a list of admission prices, click here.

PLAYERS AND COACHES: Players will be allowed free admission provided the player is wearing his game jersey. Coaches will receive 3 coaches' passes at check in. Coaches' passes are not transferable, and if forgotten or lost, the coach must purchase normal admission. Lost coaches' passes will not be replaced. Coaches' passes are not to be used by spouses or friends.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES: Both food and beverages will be available at concession stands. Cold drinking water will also be available for players in all team dugouts. Participants are permitted to bring their own food and beverage (no glass). Coolers are also permitted.

COIN FLIP: A coin flip shall determine the home team during pool play. Higher seed will be home team during bracket play.

GAME DURATION:  Games will be either seven innings or no new innings after two hours. For bracket play, additional innings will be played to determine the winner, if necessary.

GAMES/FORMAT/SEEDING: Each team will have a 5 game guarantee playing 3 pool games followed by elimination rounds. It is the responsibility of each manager to view seed postings at the conclusion of pool play. Results will be posted at entry gates.

FORFEITS: Any team failing to arrive by game time will forfeit the game. If a team emergency warrants – a game may be re-scheduled at the discretion of the director.

OFFICIAL RULES: All games shall be played in accordance with National High School Federation rules with local modifications.

RUN RULE: The run rule in effect for all games:  8 runs after 5 innings.

EJECTIONS: Any manager, coach, player or fan ejected from a game for any reason shall leave the Complex. Eligibility to return to game play will be determined after a meeting with the Tournament Director and Umpire in Chief.

D-H (HIGH SCHOOL RULE): Shall be in effect for all age groups. This allows a designated hitter for any player in the line-up.


FACILITY GUIDELINES:

  • Open fields are not available for use for any reason.
  • Observation towers are off limits.
  • Field preps by grounds crew will take place in between each game if time permits.
  • Warm up tosses are to take place in the outfield grass areas.
  • Soft toss or tee practice hitting into field fences is not permitted.
  • On deck batters are to perform swings on warning track dirt areas.
  • Team bat boys are to wear helmets at all times.
