Player Development
The winter baseball season, often referred to as the off-season, can consist of a number of different baseball activities for players. Both the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners will host a myriad of winter camps focused on different performance elements from strength and conditioning to endurance training and of course, playing baseball. These camps are typically invitation-only for selected minor league players in their organizations. The schedules for these camps vary greatly and this information cannot be provided by Peoria Sports Complex.
Another important component of the off-season that takes place far away from Peoria is "winter ball," in which both minor league and major league players will participate in the short-season winter leagues in Australia, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. These leagues play 40-70 games per season, typically complete with all-star games, playoffs and championship games, including an all-encompassing Caribbean Series in which qualified leagues send their champions to compete in the annual week-long tournament in early February.
